Sponge Bob Cake

I don't hang out with small kids and so don't really have much idea about cartoon characters. Of course I've heard of Sponge Bob Square Pants but never really noticed him before until the other day when my friend Helen asked me to make a cake for her six-year-old granddaughter Gaby. Now I know a lot about Mr. Square Pants: he lives in an underwater pineapple (!?), his best friend is a star fish and something about a squirrel who has to have a bubble on his head so he can breathe.
Okay so he's an underwater sponge...but not an ocean sponge but a cellulose one. Uh...well...he is kinda cute. So was the cake!

It's fab - any kid would love it. I have only one question - did you use sponge cake when you made it?

You captured him exactly! My grandkids are big SpongeBob fans. The squirrel is a girl named Sandy Cheeks and she's originally from Texas (for which she gets homesick on occasion). She lives in a watertight tree dome where she can breathe air without her diving suit. SpongeBob is a short-order fry cook at "The Krusty Krab," run by the penny pinching Mr. Krabs, whose main competitor is the owner of the unsuccessful restaurant across the street called "The Chum Bucket." His name is Plankton and he's green, very tiny and has one eye. He's always trying to steal Mr. Krabs' secret recipe for the Krabby Patty. Fun show for kids and adults too!

There are Lego sets for SpongeBob that have the characters names in English and French. SpongeBob in French is Bob L'Eponge. Patrick is just Patrick. :)
